Kaboom Review

The first thing you'll notice about Kaboom Shower, Tub & Tile Cleaner, aside from its regal purple container, is that it has a very pleasant smell. This is definitely a plus, as you won't have to put up with any harsh chemical smells while cleaning. It's made to clean stains such as mineral deposits, soap scum, rust, hard water stains, and lime scale. It also can be used to clean copper, brass, brass plating, steel fixtures, toilets, tubs, sinks, floors and walls.

With all those claims, we had to put Kaboom to the test.

While testing, we immediately found that that the trigger on the spray bottle didn't work well all the time. Sometimes the cleaner came out in spurts and clumps rather than in a foamy spray (it's supposed to come out foamy so it 'clings as it cleans'). We don't know if this was unique to our bottle or if it was some major manufacturer's defect. No worries though, because it didn't stop us from achieving our objectives.

We tested the Kaboom on our porcelain tub and while cleaning we noticed that it left faint yellow streaks behind it. Egads! It turns out that you shouldn't leave it 'clinging' to a surface too long. We found that you can avoid this yellow streaking by spraying Kaboom and cleaning right away. Aside from this, we found that it cleaned our tub fairly ok although it didn't get it as white as we expected.

We also tested it on our bathroom steel and brass fixtures and it did a pretty good job, though these things aren't difficult to clean. As for our bathroom tile and shower walls, those faint yellow streaks developed there as well and had to add more 'elbow grease' to get them off.

The Kaboom did a fairly decent job cleaning our toilet bowl and sink. To our pleasant surprise it worked great on removing soap scum and film. It also did a really good job of removing those mineral deposits which can be found under the rim of a toilet bowl. In fact, it's in this soap scum department that Kaboom excels in. Soap scum and film literally melt away after one spray! For that it gets and 'A+' (that's an A plus folks), but for rust stains it gets a 'C - ' (that's a Cee minus folks) as it doesn't do a good job on them.

For removing rust, we recommend ZAP or Restore 4.

The bottom line is that Kaboom is a fairly good cleaner and can be used to remove some stains although it doesn't do a great job to 'whiten and brighten' things.

As with any product, be sure to adhere to the manufacturer's instructions when using Kaboom Shower, Tub & Tile Cleaner.
